    Heavy fighting breaks out in new Mogadishu areas

By Fadumo Farah- MOGADISHU (Cunaabi) — Bitter fighting between Somali army backed by African peacekeeping mission AMISOM and Al shabaab broke out in the Somali capital Mogadishu, officials and witnesses said on Wednesday.

Officials said the fighting kicked off early Wednesday morning after more Burundian forces, which are part of AMISOM troops in Somalia, launched a huge offensive on former defense ministry where al Shabaab is based.

Afterwards, heavy confrontations erupted near the ministry building as the two sides are reported to have used both heavy and light weapons.

Brigye Bahuko, the spokesman of AMISOM forces in Mogadishu told Shabelle Media Network that they had taken of the former defense ministry, saying that they keep on fighting against Al shabaab until they confiscate Mogadishu city totally in the hours to come.

He said that Al shabaab had be using the defense ministry an areas to prepare suicide and vandalism activities.

For his part, the prime minister of Somali transitional federal government, Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed better known as Farmajo said they his forces ready to keep on fighting against what he called foreign jahadists in Somalia.

At least 15 people have so far confirmed killed and more than 25 others injured in Mogadishu battles today.

In response, Sheikh Ali Mohamoud Rage bette known as Ali Dhere told the local media that they came under attack from African union peacekeepers and Somalia army, adding that their fighters fought off what he called the enemy of Allah.
